Fun fact! In Better the Wool, the Lamb's parents don't recognize her once they're revived! This means she gets a lot of juicy gossip about their lives once she was out of the picture in absolutely insane throwaway lines.

She also has some very intense feelings about the circumstances that led to her being separated from her family.

I wonder why the Lamb was exiled as a heretic? She seems rather bitter about the matter...

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.

#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility #of an afterlife being located on the moons #Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some #other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central #ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife #Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they #need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through #this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead #make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like #in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living #and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink #and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth #to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as #barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located #behind the moons and stars) like everyone else #And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be #partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so #he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the #transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda #Go Get Him #Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

I'm sure it's been said before but...

Maybe an interesting interpretation of the craft skill names in ISAT is that they represent not just the characters' approach to craft, but also what they need to make their craft function?

For example, Isabeau's crafts are all about hyping himself (and the party) up and demotivating his enemies. They're all in all caps with multiple exclamation marks - so he needs to commit to his feelings HARD or that emotion won't properly evoke through his craft.

Similarly, all of Mirabelle's skills have sweet, cute names. She needs to feel like she's the heroine, or at least working with the good guys. I don't think she could physically use an offensive skill against someone she didn't consider an event even if she wanted to.

By contrast, I think all of Siffrin's moves being puns serves a few purposes. One, they're helpful mnemonics. Harder to forget a decent (or terrible) joke, right? Two, they need to feel like they're cool and un-concerned by their enemy. If they get too serious, things might actually come crashing down... And three, the point of a joke is to reach an audience. They've defined their entire crafting repertoire around putting the party at ease and making them smile (or groan, but it's the thought that counts).

#isat #in Stars and time #odile doesn't fit into this neatly but i think maybe being detached from the situation somewhat serves get emotionally too #keeping that distance lets her practice other types of craft and focus on offense while counting on her party for support and assistance #idk #i don't think this is isat spoilers but you could make some good additions based on how things change in act 5 :)#this is kinda obvious meta but i wanted to put it out there anyway

additionally i think its really funny to imagine the beginning of the 3jima dynamic because well obviously saejima's reputation proceeds him. like daigo is certainly aware of who he is and additionally that he also happens to be majimas sworn brother. and of course daigos been working with majima for the past several years and is well beyond aware that the man is a complete lunatic So you can only really imagine how terrified he is of seeing saejima in action particularly around majima because youve gotta be a real sicko to actually sign up for whatever all his problems are. But then he actually meets him and is so taken aback because hes so normal. hes quite possibly the most normal and well adjusted man daigos ever met in his whole stupid career. and so for a brief and fleeting moment he thinks hes found an oasis a sea of hope in this miserable valley of tears And then saejima and majima start talking and daigo goes "Oh wow ok nevermind you two are the most annoying people on planet earth."

#^and of course its like kind of weird and awkward because daigo has known and worked closely with majima for several years at this point #and saejima has known majima in theory for much longer but in practice has come back from prison to meet a profoundly changed man #and is trying to figure out how to adjust appropriately because of course hes still majima but hes also . well . different .#and majima is in turn also trying to adjust to both saejima's changes as well as the shift in their dynamic #so basically its kind of like when youre trying to introduce two of your friends to each other #except if one of your friends was you and your other friends boss but also kind of like your weird psuedo nephew/kid #who youve been supporting but also lowkey terrorizing for the past however many years of his life #and your other friend is your sworn brother who you havent seen in about two decades and who youve gone through hell and back for #but have emerged a profoundly changed person to the point where your dynamic has entirely shifted #and you are both trying to figure out how to adjust and how to perceive each other and what your relationship is going to look like #so it has the additional added awkwardness of like when youre introducing one of your really old friends to one of your new friends #but simultaneously daigo and saejima are both the old and the new friend #and basically what im saying is. it wouldbe really funny to watch.#jimas

Poppy for N2 au, it took me so long to make her design cuz I didn't really know what I wanted to do only because I feel like her design is pretty perfect.

But then I just thought about fun outfits to give her or outfits that I would find comfortable if I was wearing them and it all came together.

Poppy here is pretty much the same as here movie counterpart, as nothing really changes on her end of things other than having more insight on Branch through his brothers, and through Lief. Shes also a bit more understanding a bit earlier on because of it but it doesnt do much to change her own character arc I would say.

Bonus

Part of Poppys design was based off a design I had made for previous rulers of Troll Village/Tree

Namely Queen Protea who I designed as Poppys grandmother

Named after the Protea flower which part of her design is based off :D

In the context of this Au Protea was the one who conceptualized the tunnels while her son, King Peppy, was the one to follow through after her death

Only minor gripe I have is the boobplate but I mean, discounting that

I love those gauntlets! And there's the cloak too! And the Tower goddamn the TOWER

The flames! Is that goddamn GOBLIN FIRE, hmmm I do believe it might be some good ol' goblin fire. Though what's with the green flame torches? Meh a minor detail, green is also the color of Evil in the Guideverse anyway, or is that just for Black? Either way, it works for me.

And I LOVE this design for Catherine, the hair, the expression, the pose! Like how often do you see fantasy covers this accurate, be honest.

But also? Something important to me personally?

She's got a nose bump! You have no idea how important this is to me lol sorry I sound insane but for real 😭😭😭

I'm so looking forward to these coming out, and having this series in print on my shelf.

From what's known about it, the official publication should be 15 books in total, which divides most of the original web novel into 2-3 books each, at least one (new book 3) will include be a totally new addition to the story taking place between the original book 1 and start of book 2.

Ugh gonna get confusing when trying to reference what's what, might end up adopting what the author does and call the new books volumes.

Gonna be chewing on this series for at least a few more years guaranteed now :DDDDD
